Academy for Ranch Management Offers Workshops

COLLEGE STATION -– The Academy for Ranch Management has announced its schedule of 2007 workshops.

All workshops will be held at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station at Sonora.

“Anyone interested in learning more about using prescribed fire to control unwanted brush and improve their rangeland will want to participate in these workshops,” said Ray Hinnant, one of the instructors and senior research associate with the Experiment Station.

A prescribed rangeland burning workshop is scheduled Jan. 18-20, and an advanced rangeland burning workshop is slated for Feb. 22-24.

“If they want a basic prescribed burn workshop with hands-on experience, they will want to take the first prescribed burning workshop in January,” Hinnant said. “The advanced rangeland burning workshop will provide a greater understanding of developing burn plans and understanding fire behavior.”

If participants attend both workshops and pass a test, they will have met the requirements for the educational component of the Certified Prescribed Burn Manager program, Hinnant said.
