AMARILLO – The Texas High Plains Grain Elevator Workshop will be held Feb. 3 at the Ashmore Inn and Suites, 2301 Interstate 40 East, Exit 72-A, in Amarillo, according to a Texas AgriLife Extension Service specialist.

The meeting, jointly sponsored by AgriLife Extension and the Tri-State Chapter of Grain Elevator and Processing Society, is set for 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., said Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist in Amarillo. A registration fee of $40 may be paid in advance or at the door.

Program topics and speakers include:

– Aeration – Dr. Carol Jones, Oklahoma State University biosystems/ag engineering, Stillwater, Okla.

– Beneficial insects – Malcom Maedgen Jr., BIOFAC Crop Care, Inc., Mathis.

– Fumigation – Jerry Meers, Great Plains Chemical, Lubbock.

– Insect pest management of stored grain - Dr. Roy Parker, AgriLife Extension entomologist, Corpus Christi.

– Laws and Regulations – Levon Harman, Texas Department of Agriculture inspector-pesticide/regulatory, Amarillo.

– Working Safely at Heights – Mary Beth Parker, Fall Protection Systems Corp. director of marketing, Florissant, Mo.

– Weed Control – T.V. Smith, DuPont vegetative specialist, Allen.

Continuing education units by Texas Department of Agriculture for commercial, non-commercial and private applicator licensees are pending at this time, Bynum said.
