Drip irrigation field day set for Sept. 20 at Muleshoe

MULESHOE – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a subsurface drip irrigation field day at 9 a.m. Sept. 20 on the John Saylor Farm near Muleshoe.

The Saylor Farm is located 12 miles west of Muleshoe. Take Farm-to-Market 1760, turn on County Road 44, travel a half mile and turn west to the site located down the turn-row a quarter mile. A second site for viewing during the field day is on the Bobby Free Farm south of Earth.

Because of sponsorships, the field day is free and open to the public.

“As irrigation water sources dwindle, drip irrigation starts to take center stage as an alternative way to water crops due to its low volume requirements,” said Curtis Preston, AgriLife Extension agent in Bailey County. “The purpose of this field day is to bring area producers up to speed on this comparatively new technology for our area.”

The day’s presentations will include talks on the benefits of drip irrigation and new irrigation technologies. Preston said AgriLife personnel and industry representatives will be available for comment and to answer questions.
