OVERTON– Lauren Tedford has been hired as the new Texas AgriLife Extension Service family and consumer sciences agent in Henderson County. Her first day on the job was Dec. 1.
“I am pleased to have Lauren join our Extension faculty in Henderson County,” said Shelia Lewis, AgriLife Extension district administrator, Overton. “She will be a great asset to the county and AgriLife Extension. I feel certain Lauren will do an excellent job because of her enthusiasm for providing quality, educational programs and working with the public.”
AgriLife Extension is an agency of the Texas A&M University System whose mission is to serve Texans through community-based education, Lewis said.
Lewis said that as a new county agent, Tedford will spend the first 30 days on the job training in the First Step for Success program in Smith County before starting in Henderson County.
Under the First Step program, a new employee gets to observe and experience the day-to-day operations of a typical AgriLife Extension county office, and to gain a general understanding of what’s likely to be expected of them in their county, Lewis said.
Tedford earned a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences from Baylor University in 2008. The same year, she worked as intern in AgriLife Extension’s Henderson County office.
“I am thrilled to officially begin serving Henderson County on behalf of Texas AgriLife Extension,” Tedford said. “My time spent interning with Henderson County Extension encouraged me to pursue a career with Extension because it is so well aligned with my passion for serving the children and families of Texas.”
