FREDERICKSBURG — The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will present free workshops and a meeting in the Hill Country during February to address grapevine pruning and vineyard management.
Three pruning workshops will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at different vineyard locations during the month.
At these workshops, we’ll cover concepts of double pruning, pruning levels and vine balance, increase fill of fruiting wire, cordon and spur development, pruning for canopy fill, young vine pruning and more,” said Penny Adams, AgriLife Extension viticulture adviser for the Hill Country. “Attendees should come prepared for the weather and to do some walking.”
Attendees must register in advance by calling Adams or Becky Mazurek at 830-997-7047 or by e-mailing her at psadams@ag.tamu.edu
The first workshop will be Feb. 9 at Kuhlken Vineyard, 11446 N. State Highway 16 in Fredericksburg. The next will be Feb. 13 at Salt Lick Vineyard, 18300 Farm-to-Market 1826 in Driftwood. The third will be Feb. 21 at Bending Branch Estate Vineyard, 142 Linder Branch Trail in Comfort.
The Preseason Vineyard Management Meeting will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Feb. 20 at the AgriLife Extension office for Gillespie County, 95 Frederick Road in Fredericksburg.
“If you need to brush-up on the nuts and bolts of vineyard diseases, insects and weed control, planting materials and timing, you should plan to attend this indoor presentation on vineyard management, which is followed by a discussion period,” Adams said.
Adams said the vineyard management meeting is also free, but attendees must again preregister by calling her or Mazurek at 830-997-7047 or e-mailing her at psadams@ag.tamu.edu
