COLLEGE STATION — The Texas A&M Institute of Renewable Natural Resources is hosting a conservation science and social media seminar Feb. 13 for those interested in embracing social media to communicate science.
The seminar will be 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the College Station Convention Center, 1300 George Bush Drive, College Station.
Registration is available through Texas AgriLife Extension Service’s Conference Services at https://agriliferegister.tamu.edu/. Enter the keywords “social media” to find the registration form. The cost is $35 if paid before Feb. 7 and $45 after. Lunch is included.
Because parking is limited at the conference center, a shuttle will load at the Centeq Building in Research Park, located at 1500 Research Parkway, at 8:30 a.m. to take participants to and from the conference center. Parking at the Centeq Building is free.
“Science and research organizations, including universities, nongovernmental organizations, and local, state and federal agencies, have to learn to compete for consumers’ attention in today’s online world,” said Amy Hays, AgriLife Extension emerging technologies specialist with the institute. “This seminar will provide those communicating science information with guidance on how to use social media to turn science into effective advocacy.”
The seminar will present case studies, discussions and strategies to help elevate the role of science in online conversations. Participants will learn the new roles that they can take online and will hear ideas about how to turn online advocacy into action, Hays said.
