CRANE – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service offices in Crane and Ector counties will conduct the Permian Basin Range Recovery Conference from 11:15 a.m. – 3 p.m. March 1 in the Crane County Exhibit Hall, 900 West 6th St., Crane.
“We’re all about dry weather in our part of West Texas, but last year and for the foreseeable future it has become more than a bit extreme even for our arid region,” said Caleb Eaton, AgriLife Extension agent in Crane County. “The whole idea for this conference is to present three very concise presentations on various drought-related management topics to help our producers cope with what has become a prolonged natural disaster in terms of range management.”
Topics and speakers will include:
– Range Management and Recovery During Drought, Dr. Alyson McDonald, AgriLife Extension range specialist at Fort Stockton.
– Cowherd Management During Drought, Dr. Bruce Carpenter, AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist at Fort Stockton.
– Impact of Drought on Wildlife, Ken Cearley, AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist at Amarillo.
One and a half Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered–1 integrated pest management and a half general.
Individual preregistration is $10 due upon arrival, though organizers ask attendees to RSVP by Feb. 24 for the lunch count. Lunch will be sponsored by Novartis Animal Health.
