Multi-county Cattleman’s Spring Clinic set March 1 in Lampasas

LAMPASAS – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service’s multi-county Cattleman’s Spring Clinic is set from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. March 1 in the Lampasas County Farm Bureau Building, 1793 N. Highway 281 in Lampasas.
“We will be focusing on the current state of the cattle business,” said Heath Lusty, AgriLife Extension agent in Lampasas County. “Like most of the state, we’ve been hurting for rain for quite some time. Recent moisture has given us some renewed hope, but we still have a long way to go. The underlying theme for this year’s clinic is how to cope with current range conditions while readying for range recovery and the cost of restocking once it does really start raining.”
Topics and speakers will include:
Market Update/Beef Cattle Economics, Bill Thompson, AgriLife Extension economist, San Angelo; Herd Management for Current Conditions, Dr. Rick Machen, AgriLife Extension livestock specialist, Uvalde; Beef Herd Health Management Calendar, Dr. Floron “Buddy” Faries, AgriLife Extension state veterinarian, College Station; and Rangeland Recovery and Associated Risks, Dr. Barron Rector, AgriLife Extension range specialist, College Station.
The clinic is a joint effort among AgriLife Extension offices in Lampasas, Burnet and Llano counties with sponsorship from the Lampasas County Farm Bureau.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered – two general and one integrated pest management.
Individual preregistration is $20 and includes lunch.
For more information and to RSVP by Feb. 27, call the AgriLife Extension office in Lampasas County at 512-556-8271.
