CANADIAN – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service is opening registration for the 2012 Master Gardener Training Series for northeastern Panhandle residents, according to Kyle Barnett, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Hemphill County.

This advance training will cover topics such as landscape design, vegetable gardening, soil science, pesticide management, insects/disease management, irrigation management, lawn and turf, and proper plant selection, Barnett said.

Registration is open to anyone willing to participate and agree to give back to the program through community service efforts, he said.

Fifty hours of advanced training will be offered from March through August in various locations throughout the six-county area, Barnett said.

Applications should be turned in with the $175 registration fee by March 16, he said.

A complete list of dates and topics as well as the registration packet can be picked up at the AgriLife Extension offices in Ochiltree, Lipscomb, Hemphill, Gray, Wheeler or Roberts counties, along with additional information about the program.

For more information, contact Barnett at 806-323-9114.
