COLLEGE STATION – Dr. Kerry Litzenberg, a Regents Professor in the department of agricultural economics at Texas A&M University, is a recipient of a 2012 Distinguished Achievement Award for teaching.
The awards are given by Texas A&M and the Association of Former Students in recognition of outstanding faculty members. This is the fourth time Litzenberg has received honors from the Former Students Association.
The university-level Distinguished Achievement Awards were first presented in 1955 and have since been awarded to 930 professionals who have exhibited the highest standards of excellence at Texas A&M.
The awards will be presented at 1:30 p.m. April 25 during ceremonies at Rudder Theater on the Texas A&M campus. Each recipient will receive a $4,000 cash gift, an engraved watch and a commemorate plaque.
“Dr. Litzenberg is most deserving of this award,” said Dr. Alan Sams, executive associate dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. “He is an innovative and committed teacher that is both adored and respected by students.”
“Dr. Litz, as he is referred to by students, is one of the most accomplished university-level instructors I have ever had the pleasure to work with,” said Dr. John Nichols, department head. “His high level of effectiveness is rooted in his passion for students and their success, his research on teaching and learning, and his overall ability to engage and motivate students in a commitment to life-long learning.”
Litzenberg has been at Texas A&M since 1979 and has taught more than 10,000 students during his academic career. He also received a teaching excellence award earlier this year from the U.S. Department of Agriculture-National Institute of Food and Agriculture – one of two given annually in the nation.
In 2010, he was awarded a Presidential Professor of Teaching Excellence Award and was recognized as a Regents Professor for The Texas A&M University System in 2009.
Litzenberg earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from Purdue University.
