MIDKIFF – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a Multi-County Range Improvement Program and tour from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. May 9 beginning at the Midkiff Community Center, 12701 N. Farm-to-Market Road 2401 in Midkiff.
The program is being hosted by the AgriLife Extension offices in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service offices serving Upton, Reagan and Glasscock counties.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available for private applicator license holders — two general and one integrated pest management.
Topics will include managing rangeland under current conditions, reseeding right-of-ways, toxic plants, using Spike herbicide for brush control and whether or not a $2,500 cow will turn a profit.
Following a catered lunch, the tour will depart at 1:15 p.m. for the Wagon Wheel Ranch to view range-restoration demonstration plots using individual plant or Brush Busters treatments, grubbing, contour ripping and reseeding.
Individual preregistration is $20 by May 4 and $25 thereafter. The fee includes the noon meal.
