COLLEGE STATION — Flora Williams has been named Texas AgriLife Extension Service agent for family and consumer sciences in Brazos County, according to Dr. Dale A. Fritz, AgriLife Extension district administrator, and the Brazos County Commissioners Court.
Williams will assume her new duties on Sept. 1.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Prairie View A&M University and master’s degree in education administration/curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix Online.
Williams is currently working on her doctorate in education leadership from the University of Phoenix School of Advanced Study.
For the past eight years, Williams has served as the AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Grimes County. In this role, she served as the program coordinator and managed an extensive effort to assist families and consumers, Fritz said. Her key educational programs included child passenger safety, nutrition education, parenting education, diabetes education, child care provider education and food protection management.
She also worked with the 4-H and youth development program and managed a 4-H program with nearly 400 club members and 100 adult volunteers.
In addition, she coordinated the Health Rocks! and Keys to the Courthouse curriculum outreach for youth at Navasota High School. She conducted numerous clinics and workshops in 4-H clothing and textiles, food and nutrition, and consumer decision making.
Previously, Williams served as the Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension Program agent in Waller and Wharton counties. In this role, she was responsible for the overall leadership of the family and consumer sciences program for limited resource families.
Her previous work experience also included serving as a Grimes County Head Start home visitor for two years and as a Navasota Head Start teacher for five years with the Brazos Valley Community Action Agency.
Williams was active in youth groups while growing up. She participated as an officer of her high school student council and Future Homemakers of America Club. She was also a member of the drama club and high school basketball and track teams. While at Prairie View A&M, Williams was a member of the Home Economics Association and Home Economics Honor Society.
