PECOS – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a tree and drought workshop from 9-11 a.m. Sept. 15 at the Odessa College extension campus, 1000 South Eddy Street in Pecos.
Joshua Cobos, AgriLife Extension agent in Reeves County, said the program’s main objective will be to determine if anything can be done with the landscape and trees affected by this year’s heat and drought.
“I’ve observed a number of trees this spring at the request of concerned homeowners,” Cobos said. “Many trees that usually do fine in our area are now suffering from many preexisting environmental factors.
“By conducting this program, we will try to shine some light on the reason for the tree die-off, explore ways to salvage those trees that are not completely dead and look at strategies to protect our landscapes in the future.”
Jeff Floyd, AgriLife Extension horticulturist for Ector County and Mark Walter a certified arborist and owner of “Just Trees” in Midland, will present the program and be available to answer questions.
Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units, one integrated pest management, one general, will be offered.
Individual registration is $10 payable at the door.
