MASON – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Mason County will conduct a Range and Wildlife Improvement Workshop from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Richard Eckert Civic Center, 1024 McKinley Street in Mason.
“This workshop is meant to educate area ranchers and the community on range and wildlife improvement and the different options they have to manage their properties and the wildlife that utilize it,” said Tyler Bobinmyer, AgriLife Extension agent in Mason County.
“After the horrific drought of 2011 and today’s extremely high feed prices, it’s vital that ranchers and landowners understand the options they have to become better land stewards while still optimizing their available resources.
“Drs. Charles ‘Butch’ Taylor, superintendent of the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Station at Sonora and Dale Rollins, AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist at San Angelo, two of the most respected names in the fields of range and wildlife management, will be our workshop presenters.”
The workshop’s topics will include: Predator Management, Brush Sculpting Techniques, Supplemental Feeding of Wildlife, Prescribed Fire as a Management Tool and Using Remote- Sensing Cameras.
Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units — one integrated pest management and one general — will be available for those with a pesticide applicators license.
Individual preregistration by Oct. 5 is $20 and $30 thereafter. The fee includes a noon meal.
For more information and to preregister, call the AgriLife Extension office in Mason County at 325-347-6459.
