SAN ANGELO – Courtney Redman has been named the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s agent for 4-H and youth development for Tom Green County, effective Oct. 15.

The joint announcement was made by Tom Green County Judge Mike Brown and Scott Durham, AgriLife Extension administrator at San Angelo.

“I’m very pleased Courtney has accepted the Tom Green County 4-H position,” Durham said. “She is very familiar with the county’s 4-H program, having worked closely with her predecessor Garry Branham, who is now our West Central District AgriLife Extension 4-H specialist.

“Courtney has been the AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Irion and Schleicher counties since 2008, two counties in the district, so we are very familiar with her work here in the West Central District,” Durham said. “She has a solid background in teaching family and consumer sciences and in agriculture. She’s one who can effectively teach a nutrition class in the morning and easily offer tips to a young 4-H’er on how best to exhibit a lamb in the afternoon. I can tell you, that’s a combination that’s not easy to find.”

Redman grew up in Brownwood where she was active in the 4-H program, Durham said.

Redman holds a bachelor’s degree in human sciences from Tarleton State University at Stephenville and a master’s of education degree in guidance and counseling from Sul Ross State University at Alpine.

Prior to joining AgriLife Extension, Redman taught family and consumer sciences in the Clear Creek Independent School District at League City. Before that, she worked as a home and community specialist and service coordinator for Johnson-Ellis-Navarro Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services at Cleburne. She also taught family and consumer sciences in the Alvin Independent School District.

Redman was named the Outstanding County Extension Agent-Family and Consumer Sciences by the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers’ Association during their 97th annual convention in Kerrville earlier this summer.
