NEW BRAUNFELS – A day-long pre-service training for caregivers of infant through early school-age children will be offered Nov. 10 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office at 325 Resource Dr., New Braunfels.
The training will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. with registration starting at 8:30 a.m.
“The training will cover a variety of topics related to child care that will be of interest and benefit to professionals and paraprofessionals preparing to serve in the childcare industry,” said Dr. Connie Sheppard, AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Bexar County. Sheppard and Martha Joyce, AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent for Comal County, will present the training.
Topics will include: age-appropriate activities; child guidance and discipline; supervision and safety practices; positive interaction with children; recognizing and preventing shaken-baby syndrome; preventing sudden infant death and understanding early childhood development.
Cost is $35 per person and includes a box lunch. Attendees must preregister and pay by Nov. 7. There is a minimum class size required, so attendees are requested to call prior to Nov. 10 to confirm the training will take place.
