WICHITA FALLS – The second installment of a four-part series for horse owners who want more information on how to care for mares will be hosted Dec. 11 by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Wichita County Extension Horse Committee.
The program is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Events Center, 1000 5th Street in Wichita Falls, said Fred Hall, AgriLife Extension agricultural and natural resources agent for Wichita County.
Dr. Jered Harlan will present “Focus on Foaling Time.” Harlan, a graduate of the Oklahoma State College of Veterinary Medicine, works at Fellhauer and Morris Veterinary Clinic with companion, performance and production animals.
The final two parts of the series will be held after the new year, Hall said. On Jan. 8, Dr. Tina Anderson, a nutritionist with Purina, will present “Nutrition and Care of the Lactating Mare and Foal.” On Feb. 12, “Care and Nutrition for the Breeding Mare,” will be presented by Jeff Butler, a nutritionist with ADM.
Hall said registration for the next three programs is only $20 combined. Walk-ins can pay $10 for each program at the door.
The series is sponsored by the Feed and Garden Store in Wichita Falls; Berend Bros. Farm Store, Wichita Falls; and Holliday Feed and Farm Supply in Holliday. The Browse Shop in Wichita Falls will supply door prizes for each program.
