HOUSTON — TransCanada Corporation will commit $200,000 over a four-year period to the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation to help “support leadership development activities for the state’s future leaders,” according to corporation officials.
To memorialize this long-term commitment, a ceremonial check for this amount was presented to Jim Reeves, executive director of the Texas 4-H Foundation and Joel Cowley, a 4-H Foundation trustee, during the junior commercial steer competition at the Reliant Arena Sales Pavilion in Houston. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service director Dr. Doug Steele and state director for 4-H and youth development Dr. Chris Boleman, both of College Station, were also present.
The Texas 4-H program is administered by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, an educational outreach agency of the Texas A&M University System. Currently there are more than 55,000 4-H members in 2,000-plus clubs statewide, with more than 600,000 Texas youth participating in 4-H programs and activities annually.
The funds will support opportunities for youths to develop leadership skills while attending the annual Texas 4-H Congress and participating in One Day 4-H activities.
“Supporting the communities where we live and work is a key priority for TransCanada, and we look forward to helping to develop these leaders of tomorrow,” said Lee Hobbs, senior vice president and general manager of TransCanada’s U.S. pipelines operations in Houston.
Reeves said the donation reflects TransCanada’s “appreciation for and endorsement of” the more than a century old 4-H movement and of the Texas 4-H and Youth Development program that has helped inspire thousands of young Texas leaders.
“Both organizations share a sincere passion for building stronger family units and thriving communities within this state and are willing to invest in any effort that works toward accomplishing these goals,” Reeves said.
“The support from TransCanada will surely help 4-H members have even more meaningful programs in the areas of community service and servant leadership,” Boleman said. “We are very pleased with this new collaboration and look forward to working with them.”
