SINTON – A Coastal Bend Grain Storage and Handlers Safety Conference is scheduled from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. April 24 at the San Patricio County Civic Center located at 219 West 5th St. in Sinton.
Various safety-related topics and demonstrations will be highlighted throughout the program, said Bobby McCool, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for San Patricio County.
“With safety an ever-pressing issue in and around grain storage facilities, management, employees and farms with on-site storage units can benefit from the programs we have scheduled,” McCool said.
Topics include: Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance, safety hazard review, grain dust research and hazards, grain engulfment hazards, heat stress prevention, grain storage insect management, fall protection and fire extinguisher safety training.
Preregistration is required by April 17 by calling 361-364-6234. Cost is $20 payable at the door. A catered lunch will be provided. Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will also be offered and certificates of attendance available.
AgriLife Extension offices in San Patricio, Nueces and Refugio counties are sponsoring the event.
