MANCHACA – A Large‐Scale Rainwater Harvesting Workshop and Tour presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Travis, Hays and Bastrop counties and the Manchaca United Methodist Church Community Garden, will be held 9 a.m-2 p.m. Oct. 19 in Manchaca.
The program will be held at the Manchaca United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 1011 Farm-to-Market 1626 at Manchaca Road.
“This workshop and tour will be ideal for those wishing to install harvesting systems for large gardens, small livestock operations, wildlife or trees, as well as for those wanting to install in-home irrigation systems,” said Julie Ansley, AgriLife Extension agent, Travis County.
Ansley said the program will feature Billy Kniffen, water resource specialist from Menard. Workshop topics will include site selection, tank and parts selection, rainwater math and determining the cost of materials.
Workshop attendees will be educated on installation of 500 gallon tanks and up in size. The tour portion of the program will be of a nearby home with a 36,000 gallon harvesting capacity.
Tour information and specific instructions will be given at the time of the program, and carpooling will be encouraged, Ansley said.
Registration is $25 per person and includes lunch. Register via Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Conference Services at http://agriliferegister.tamu.edu. Type “Large‐Scale Rainwater” in the search box.
The deadline to register is Oct. 15. Late and on‐site registration through conference services will be accepted, but the cost will be $35. No cash will be accepted.
