SAN ANTONIO – During the holiday season, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present its Backyard Basics “Gifts from the Kitchen” workshop at locations in and around San Antonio.
“This workshop, which shows people how to make homemade holiday gifts to give as presents, will be another of our programs focusing on the value and fun of making your own foods and other items,” said Dr. Connie Sheppard, AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Bexar County. “Giving homemade foods to friends and family during the holidays is not only a great tradition, it also shows you have put some real time and effort into your gift.”
Sheppard said demonstrations and recipes for gifting from the kitchen will include holiday bread, hot drink mixes, homemade jelly and even a bath scrub and milk bath.
Similar workshops will be held at different locations on different dates. Times, dates and locations will be:
— 1:30-4 p.m. Nov. 14, Bexar County AgriLife Extension office , Suite 208 of Conroy Square, 3355 Cherry Ridge Drive, San Antonio.
— 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 21, Texas Agricultural and Heritage Museum, 390 Cordova Rd., Seguin.
— 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 3, Schertz United Methodist Church, 3460 Roy Richard Drive, Schertz.
“The workshops will focus on foods and other gifts that you can make at home to give to people, even those who you think already have everything,” said Charla Bading, AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences in Guadalupe County. “There will be recipes and practical hands-on demonstrations on how to prepare them, plus participants will get to take the goodies we make home with them.”
The workshop is $30. To register, go to http://agriliferegister.tamu.edu/BackyardBasics or call 979-845-2604.
