COLLEGE STATION – Stephania Alvarez, a Better Living for Texans assistant with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Harris County, has received a Superior Service Award for Office Support, the highest honor given by the agency.
The award was presented Jan. 8 during the agency’s Centennial Conference in College Station.
According to the nomination, Alvarez has impacted the county’s Better Living for Texans program through her enthusiasm and innovative teaching methods, contributing to the success and outreach of AgriLife Extension programming in Harris County by appearing on the county’s video, assisting with development of marketing pieces, presenting wellness educational programs during Master Wellness Volunteer sessions and 4-H and youth development activities.
In a support letter, Ann Starr, director of the Fonteno Senior Education Center in Houston, wrote, “Stephania has presented several nutrition courses to the students who attended our senior citizens’ education program. Stephania’s knowledge, warm personality and desire to help people are some of the shining qualities that make her an excellent choice to receive an award.”
Lisa Rice, director of the Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center in Houston, wrote, “Our community is diverse. Stephania takes the time to listen to our needs and develops the classes according to the community’s needs. She is doing something she loves and is dedicated to her profession, and should be proud of all she does. She is well deserving of this award!”
