MENARD – Lisa Runge Brown will assume duties as the new Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for agriculture and natural resources in Menard County effective Feb. 17.
The announcement was made by Menard County Judge Dr. Richard Cordes, D.V.M., and Scott Durham, AgriLife Extension administrator in San Angelo.
“We are thrilled Lisa has accepted this key position in District 7,” Durham said. “She’s no stranger to Menard as she was raised here on a ranch that’s been in her family for more than a century. She’s also no stranger to our agency, since she’s worked as the 4-H program assistant in the county since 2007.
“I predict this to be a very smooth transition as she’s already very familiar with much of the work she’ll be doing. From looking at the strong 4-H program the county enjoys, thanks to her leadership, it’s obvious she knows the workings of our agency, as well as her clientele, many of whom she has known and worked with all her life.”
Brown was the Menard High School valedictorian in 1990 and a 1993 honor graduate of the U.S. Marine Corps Candidate School. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics in 1995.
Brown remains active in her family’s ranching business as a shareholder/operator of the Runge Ranch Company at Fort McKavett. She also is the owner/operator of her own cattle and goat ranching enterprise, Rafter L Livestock, also at Fort McKavett.
Brown fills the position formerly held by Jerry Kidd, another Menard County native and longtime AgriLife Extension agent who retired at the end of December.
