WINEDALE – A Multi-County Fruit Tree Seminar, conducted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is scheduled from 1-5 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Winedale Historical Complex, Dolph Briscoe Center for American History in Winedale.
The facility is located at 3728 Farm-to-Market Road 2714, four miles from Round Top.
“For anybody who has wanted to own a fruit tree, or wants to learn how to get one to produce fruit, this is an excellent opportunity to learn what is needed to make the experience enjoyable,” said Monte Nesbitt, an AgriLife Extension program specialist in College Station.
Nesbitt will be the featured speaker and will address a wide range of topics including varieties, variety selection, pruning and other related topics.
The agenda will also include visual demonstrations of these practices at a Winedale orchard.
Refreshments and handouts will be provided, along with three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units — two general and one integrated pest management.
Registration is from 1-1:30 pm and the program will run from 1:30 p.m. to approximately 5 p.m. A registration fee of $20 will be charged at the door to help defer the cost of refreshments and materials.

Members of the Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association will be on hand selling several varieties of bare root fruit trees, including peaches, plums, pears, figs, apples, cherries and select citrus.
The trees will be available at very reasonable prices, Nesbitt said. All the varieties have been specially selected to grow and thrive in South Central Texas. To obtain a pre-order sheet for a greater selection option, visit www.bluebonnetmastergardener.org .
