BASTROP — Jason Mangold is the new Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for 4-H and youth development in Bastrop County, said an AgriLife Extension district administrator.
Mangold, who began July 7, will be headquartered at the AgriLife Extension office for Bastrop County, 901 Pecan St. in Bastrop. He will work with 4-H youth, adult leaders and volunteers on activities and programs related to education and development of life skills and character for area youth.
“We have identified and interviewed the best candidates and felt Jason was the right person for this position,” said Kathleen Greer, AgriLife Extension District 10 administrator based in Uvalde. “We think his combination of education and organizational skills, plus his experience in agriculture, knowledge of natural resources and working with young people, will fit well in Bastrop County.”
Mangold earned bachelor’s degree in agricultural science and technology from Angelo State University, along with a Texas teacher’s certification.
Prior to joining AgriLife Extension, Mangold was an agricultural science teacher at Comanche High School and a student teacher at Wall High School. Before that, he was a student worker at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in San Angelo, where he managed ranch activities and livestock, plus assisted with year-round ram testing and research projects.
Mangold received the Freshman Rookie Award from the Angelo State University Block and Bridle organization, and was named Block and Bridle’s Student of the Year as a senior. He was a three-year member of Block and Bridle, as well as a member of collegiate FFA, Chi Alpha agricultural fraternity and the Angelo State University agriculture department’s San Angelo Stock Show agriculture mechanic and judging contests.
“I am very excited and optimistic about my opportunity to work with the youth and community of Bastrop County,” Mangold said. “I believe with my experience teaching agriculture and my background in 4-H, I can bring something new and exciting to the community.”
