MENARD – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a farm and ranch estate planning workshop from 9 a.m.-noon on Dec. 4 in the Murchison/Whitehead Memorial Building in Menard.
Lisa Brown, AgriLife Extension agent in Menard County, said the featured speaker for the workshop will be Dr. Wayne Hayenga, professor emeritus and AgriLife Extension economist at College Station.
“Dr. Hayenga has spent his AgriLife Extension career working with farmers, ranchers and family-owned firms in financial, business and estate tax planning,” Brown said. “He’s an excellent communicator who gets his points across in an often entertaining, but easily understood, style.”
Some of the topics Hayenga will address include:
-The Will: What is needed?; Selection of executor(s); Paying debts and taxes; Share and share alike.
– Do I Need a Trust?
– Power of Attorney; Health Care Power of Attorney; A Living Will.
– Passing on an Active Farm or Ranch: Tips for keeping the business going.
– Management of Various Taxes: Estate, Gift, Generation-Skipping, Income and Social Security Tax.
– How Not to Let My Kid’s “Ex” Mess with Me.
Brown said the workshop is free and open to the public. Central Texas Farm Credit will sponsor a catered meal at noon. Those planning to attend should RSVP no later than Dec. 1. To RSVP or for more information, call the AgriLife Extension office in Menard County at 325-396-4787.
