COLLEGE STATION – Lonnie Jenschke, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for agriculture and natural resources, has received a Superior Service Award in the county agent category from the agency.
Superior Service Awards recognize AgriLife Extension faculty and staff members who provide outstanding performance in AgriLife Extension education or other outstanding service to the organization and to Texans. The award was presented Jan. 6 during the Texas A&M AgriLife Conference in College Station.
Jenschke, has been a dedicated AgriLife Extension educator and leader for 17 years, the past 10 in Childress County. In addition to Childress County, he served in Brown and Motley counties, and has recently moved to Stephenville to serve Erath County in the same position.
While in Childress County, he conducted successful programs in 4-H, cotton and other field crops, youth development, and volunteer management, according to the nomination. He holds several certifications, including 4-H shotgun instructor, artificial insemination technician and non-commercial pesticide applicator.
The nomination read, “Agriculture is a major source of income in the county, and yet the number of family farms has been declining. In response, Mr. Jenschke helped put together school programs to teach elementary students about the dairy industry, cotton and wheat production, beef cattle, water, wildlife and agricultural products. He has also worked with the Youth Board to help educate high school students on issues such as leadership, social media, teen health, and texting while driving.”
Jenschke has earned previous awards from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents – Distinguished ServiceAward in 2012, the District 3 Youth Programming Award in 2013 and the Childress County “Man of the Year” Award in 2012.
