COLLEGE STATION – Montgomery County Judge Alan B. Sadler has received the 2014 Extension in the City Award from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
Sadler received the award during the Texas A&M AgriLife Conference held Jan. 6 at Texas A&M University in College Station.
The award honors elected leaders whose support of AgriLife Extension has significantly contributed to the success of the agency’s growing, vibrant outreach to urban audiences.
According to the award nomination, through the decades, Montgomery County Commissioners Court has supported AgriLife Extension and facilitated development of one of the state’s leading Extension learning centers. Over the past 24 years, Sadler has been a major factor in the court’ssupport.
He and other court members have sustained the growth and expansion of AgriLife Extension education with improved facilities, support of staff during difficult budget times, and enthusiasm for agency learning programs across the county. Sadler has also assisted with the Families Reading Every Day program and encourages county employees to take part in the agency’s Walk Across Texas events.
According to the nomination, Sadler welcomes AgriLife Extension staff at court and listens responsively to the ideas they bring. Montgomery County is experiencing rapid population growth and population diversity, and the nomination states that it is through the support of the Commissioners Court and Sadler’s efforts that Texas A&M AgriLife is able to respond to the expanding and changing needs of residents.
