LUFKIN – This year’s Forest Pesticide Seminar will be held Feb. 13 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office for Angelina County, 2201 S. Medford Drive, Lufkin.
The meeting is sponsored by AgriLife Extension and the Texas A&M Forest Service.
Registered Texas Pro Loggers will earn five continuing education units toward renewal of their certification, said Cary Sims, AgriLife Extension agent for the county.
He said Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license holders can earn five continuing education units towards renewal of their licenses. And registered Society of American Forestry members can receive five continuing forestry education units.
Program cost is $50 and includes a noon meal and educational materials, Sims said. Registration will start at 8 a.m. with the meeting adjourning by 2:15 p.m. Those planning to attend should RSVP to Sims’ office at 936-634-6414, extension 102 by Feb. 9.
“With all of the extreme weather events now seeming to occur on a regular basis, it is important to learn more about the various environmental red flags that determine success or failure with your forest pesticide application,” said Dr. Eric Taylor, AgriLife Extension forestry specialist, Overton, one of the program planners. “This program will provide real application issues and solutions that can save you time and money.”

— Forest Pest Management Using IPM Methods, Dr. Ron Billings, forest health manager, Texas Forest Service.
— Real Application Issues and Solutions, John Hamilton, silviculture manager, Campbell Global, Portland, Oregon.
— Success versus Failure with Forestry Herbicide Applications, George Bieber, area manager, Red River Specialties Inc.
— Legislative Update Key to Resource Management, Ron Hufford, executive director, Texas Forestry Association.
