MENARD – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct the Multi-County Wildlife Program and Tour from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. April 9 at the Murchison/Whitehead Memorial Youth Complex in Menard.
“Following registration, we will go to the Landers Ranch at 8:30 a.m. to hear ranch owner Dr. Jake Landers, retired AgriLife Extension range specialist at San Angelo, talk and show how many years of proper range management can make wildlife and livestock compatible,” said Cody Bridges, AgriLife Extension agent in Mason County. “We will then return to the youth complex building where Dr. Morgan Russell, AgriLife Extension range specialist at San Angelo, will go into in–depth discussions about wildlife and livestock cohesion.”
Bridges said Dr. Dale Rollins, retired AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist at San Angelo, will speak on quail habitat.
“Following a catered lunch, Tiffany Dowell Lashmet, AgriLife Extension agricultural law specialist at Amarillo, will address legal issues surrounding hunting leases that landowners should be aware of,” Bridges said. “Then to round out the day, we are bringing in TV personality Gary Roberson from the Carnivore program to talk about predators and wildlife.”
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available for private applicator license holders.
Individual registration is $25 which will include the noon meal. Those planning to attend should RSVP to any of the participating AgriLife Extension offices by April 3.
