SNYDER – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct the Lower Rolling Plains Agricultural Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 1 at the Scurry Coliseum, 900 E. Coliseum Drive in Snyder.
“This conference highlights ag-related issues facing our region’s producers this coming growing season,” said Zach Wilcox, AgriLife Extension agent in Nolan County.
“As is our custom with this program, AgriLife Extension agents in the participating counties have made every effort to focus on the information our producers really need,” Wilcox said. “However, much of the information can be used pretty much anywhere in the state.”
Topics during the morning’s general session will include: cotton and other commodity economics, disease management, and laws and regulations.
Following a catered lunch, the program will split into concurrent A and B sessions.
Session A presentations will be: Weed Management Strategies for 2015, Challenges of Soil Nutrient Management, Alternative Crop Considerations and Managing Invasive and Resistant Pests.
Session B presentations will include: Retirement Income Planning, Texas Quail Index Update, Weed and Brush Control in Range and Pastures, Forage Quality and Forage Inventory and External Parasite Management.
Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units, three general, one integrated pest management and one laws and regulations, will be offered.
Worker Protection Standard training will be available for all farm workers and pesticide handlers. Wilcox said this training is required every five years. Handler cards will be provided for each participant, and there is no cost for this training.
Individual registration for the conference is $25 at the door and includes lunch. For more information or to RSVP, call either the AgriLife Extension office in Nolan County at 325-236-6912 or Scurry County at 325-573-5423.
AgriLife Extension offices conducting the multi-county program are in Borden, Fisher, Garza, Mitchell, Lynn, Nolan and Scurry counties.
