AUSTIN – Travis County residents looking for quick, easy and healthful meals to serve their families are invited to the Dinner Tonight! Healthy Cooking School Oct. 13 in Austin presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and others.
This free event will be in Building 8000, Room 8500 of the Eastview campus of Austin Community College, 3401 Webberville Road.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m, with the cooking school beginning at 6 p.m. and concluding at 8:30 p.m.
“The school will feature demonstrations of two easy and nutritious menus that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less,” said Sonia Coyle, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agent for family and consumer sciences in Travis County. “Participants will receive a cookbook consisting of an additional 15 menus and 35 recipes, along with goodie bags, recipe samples and door prizes.
“There is limited space, and because the event is free, attendance will be on a first-come first-served basis,” she said. “And three people from the audience will be chosen to serve on the tasting panel.”
Coyle said while there are many groups that conduct cooking schools, the Dinner Tonight! Healthy Cooking School is unique in that it specializes in cost-effective, easy-to-prepare dishes that fit into a healthy meal plan.
“We are targeting busy people who still want to make time for meal preparation and feel good about what they are serving their families as well as themselves,” Coyle said. “Our goals are to promote family meal time and teach families healthy meal planning and food preparation techniques.”
In addition to AgriLife Extension, the event is being presented by Amerigroup; the Better Living for Texans program; Carlos Crusco, personal chef; Cutco Kitchen; Liz Pearson, Gregorio’s; Prairie View A&M University; Sprouts Farmers Market; Student Life at ACC Eastview Campus; and the Texas Beef Council.
