BASTROP – Hillary Long is the new Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service family and consumer sciences agent for Bastrop County.
Long is currently participating in the agency’s introductory First Step program in Fayette County. Her first official day in Bastrop County will be Nov. 2.
In her role with AgriLife Extension, Long will be providing instruction and educational information to all age groups through community programs related to food and food safety, proper nutrition, and health and wellness.
“Hillary has experience in program implementation and evaluation, and in working with volunteers and support staff,” said Kathleen Greer, AgriLife Extension’s District 10 administrator based in Uvalde. “With her educational background and experience in collaborating with others to successfully plan and implement programs, I’m sure her work with AgriLife Extension will be a real benefit to those living in Bastrop County.”
Long has a family and consumer science bachelor’s degree in nutrition from Texas State University in San Marcos. She previously served as the health and wellness coordinator with the YMCA Austin branch facility in Bastrop County.
“I’m excited to be a part of AgriLife Extension and to have the opportunity to offer such a wide variety of helpful programs,” Long said. “I am committed to the community service mission of the agency, and am glad I will be instrumental in bringing this programming to the residents of Bastrop County. This is a growing, thriving area, and I’m proud that I’ll be able to contribute to its positive growth and development by helping educate residents on the importance of proper nutrition, healthy eating habits and exercise.”
