FORT WORTH – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Tarrant County will offer a program April 7 to inform landowners on a range of topics from maintaining agriculture or wildlife exemptions to possible financial assistance through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The program, which will also address rodent and other pest control methods and how to improve soil health, will begin with registration at 5:30 p.m. in the Brand Room at the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers building, 1301 W. 7th St. in Fort Worth. The program will begin at 6 p.m.
Registration is $15 and includes handouts, education program, a continuing education certificate and refreshments. Licensed pesticide applicators will earn two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units. Individuals may register online at http://agrilife.org/urbantarrantag/program-registration.
Tarrant County Appraisal District manager of agriculture valuation Dale Rector will begin the program by outlining the requirements to receive and maintain agriculture and wildlife exemptions. He will cover which enterprises qualify and provide general appraisal district information for landowners.
Melody Medders, a loan officer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources and Conservation office in Stephenville, will focus on microloans for small, beginning farmers, niche and non-traditional farm operations, such as truck farms, as well as farms participating in direct marketing and sales, such a farmers markets or those using hydroponic, aquaponics, organic and vertical growing methods.
Robert Spindle of the Tarrant County Animal Control Office will discuss pests and how to control them on your property.
Fred Hall, AgriLife Extension agent for Tarrant County, will end the program by discussing the importance of good soil health. He will connect how a healthy soil relates to successful crop and forage production as well as maintaining an attractive landscape.
