SAN ANTONIO — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present two free horticulture seminars in San Antonio during April, said a coordinator for the programs.
The first seminar will be the annual Fruit and Nut Tree Grafting Seminar April 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at Fanick’s Garden Center, 1025 Holmgreen Drive. The seminar will be presented by Dr. Larry Stein, AgriLife Extension horticulturist at the Texas A&M Agrilife Research and Extension Center in Uvalde.
“Professor Stein will demonstrate all the different grafting techniques like inlay, four-flap and approach grafts, as well as budding techniques like chip and t-budding,” said David Rodriguez, AgriLife Extension horticulturist for Bexar County, a program coordinator. “He will also explain the overall care of your fruit, nut and citrus trees before and after you graft.”
Rodriguez said this is a popular seminar, so attendees should arrive early for the best parking and seating.
The second program will be the Turfgrass 101 Seminar, which Rodriguez will present. This seminar will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon April 23 at Milberger’s Landscape Nursery, 3920 N. Loop 1604 E.
“During this seminar, attendees will learn how to establish and maintain a ‘low-input’ lawn — that is a lawn needing fewer chemical or irrigation inputs,” Rodriguez said.
