BIG LAKE – A field day tour to highlight land reclamation and water conservation efforts has been set for May 5 beginning in Big Lake.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service Middle Concho Soil and Water District are co-hosting the event.
The day will start with an 8-8:30 a.m. coffee, doughnuts and registration session at the AgriLife Extension office in Reagan County, 1430 N. Ohio St. in Big Lake.
Chase McPhaul, AgriLife Extension agent in Reagan County, said the tour will caravan to the first stop at Texon from 8:45-9:45 a.m.
“At this first stop Joe Petersen, University of Texas Lands surface interests manager at Midland, will discuss a years-long land reclamation project that’s ongoing at Texon,” McPhaul said.
“Our next stop will be on the Coates Ranch to view their mechanical brush control efforts that have resulted in a natural spring forming.
“The final stop will be on the Eggemeyer Farm to view their cropland drip irrigation system. The tour will end with a catered noon meal.”
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – two general and one laws and regulations – will be offered.
The event is free, but organizers request an RSVP for an accurate lunch count by April 25 to the Middle Concho Soil and Water Conservation District office by calling 325-884-2182 extension 3 or emailing Cayla.Holt@tx.nacdnet.net. More information is also available there or by contacting McPhaul at 325-884-2335, pcmcphaul@ag.tamu.edu .
