SULPHUR SPRINGS – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service wants to help residents learn to prepare easy, nutritious and economical meals for their families.
On May 20, AgriLife Extension agents from Hopkins, Rains and Wood counties will present Dinner Tonight “Cooking Through the Seasons” healthy cooking school, assisted by the AgriLife Extension Master Wellness volunteer program.
The event begins with registration at 9 a.m. at the Recreation Outreach Center, 115 Putnam St. in Sulphur Springs. The program is $15 per person and includes a goody bag, refreshments, door prizes and recipe cards.
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital dietician Kim Sellers will discuss healthy and unhealthy fats. Chef Lyndsey Caldwell will demonstrate knife skills, including what knives to use for certain foods and how to use them. She will also demonstrate recipes featuring spring and summer produce.
Angie Monk, AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent in Wood County, will demonstrate fall and winter baking featuring whole wheat flour.
Johanna Hicks, AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent in Hopkins County, will show how various kitchen gadgets can make food preparation easier and fun.
Denita Young, AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent in Rains County, will present different ways to dress up the dining table for each season.
Exhibitors will be on hand to show their latest wares and information before and after the event, as well as during the break.
“As everyone gears up for the summer months, we wanted to focus on healthy cooking year-round,” Hicks said.
