MERTZON – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a gardening program from 2-4 p.m. June 2 at the Mertzon Community Center, 112 W. Duncan Ave. in Mertzon.
Laci Kennedy, AgriLife Extension agent in Irion County, said the free program will feature Allison Watkins, AgriLife Extension horticulturist in Tom Green County.
“Allison is well acquainted with the oftentimes tough growing conditions gardeners in our area face, so her topics will key in on how to grow what in our specific area.
“We’ve had a great spring thus far and gardeners or prospective gardeners should take every advantage of it, and Allison will be here to start everyone, novice or old pro, off in the right direction.”
Topics Watkins will cover will include site selection, bed preparation, planting dates, variety selection and gardening basics.
