PERRYTON – The 18th annual Wheatheart Wheat Conference will be Aug. 11 at the Ochiltree County Expo Center, 402 Expo Drive, Perryton.
The event is hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices in Hansford, Hemphill, Hutchinson, Lipscomb, Roberts and Ochiltree counties.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and there is a $10 fee, payable at the door. The program will conclude with a lunch, sponsored by Texas Wheat Producers.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – one general, one drift and one integrated pest management – will be offered to pesticide applicators.
Those attending the event will hear educational topics related to wheat production management and marketing, said Scott Strawn, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent in Ochiltree County.
The program topics and speakers will be:
– Market Outlook and Wheat Marketing Plan, Dr. Mark Welch, AgriLife Extension grain marketing economist, College Station
– Canola Production in the Texas Panhandle: How to get started, Dr. Clark Neely, AgriLife Extension state small grains and oilseed specialist, College Station.
– Weed Management in Fallow and 2,4-D Drift Management, Dr. Jourdan Bell, AgriLife Extension agronomist, Amarillo.
– Greenbug and Aphid Management in Wheat, Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist, Amarillo.
– Rust Management in Wheat, Dr. Ron French, AgriLife Extension plant pathologist, Amarillo.
