SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bexar County will offer a Food Handler’s class from 9 a.m.- noon Sept. 30 at its offices at 3355 Cherry Ridge Dr., Suite 208, in San Antonio.
The fee is $20. Payment can be made the day of the class by money order or check.
“The Texas Department of State Health Services accredited food handlers program is now being offered here,” said Angie Gutierrez, Agrilife Extension family and consumer sciences agent, Bexar County. “The class is a basic overview of food safety practices that are necessary to ensure you serve safe food at your establishment.”
Gutierrez said the revised Texas Food Establishment Rules, which will go into effect Sept. 16, require all employees who handle food to complete an accredited food handlers training program within 60 days of employment.
Gutierrez said personal hygiene, cross contamination and time and temperature misuse will be among the topics addressed at the program.
A certificate will be awarded to those who successfully complete the course, which is good for two years and valid anywhere in Texas.
Call Gutierrez or Frances Moreno-Elizondo at 210-631-0400 to preregister or for more program information.
