EDNA – A five-hour continuing education event will be offered Dec. 8 at the Jackson County Services Building auditorium, 411 N. Wells, Edna.
The event, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., is hosted by the Field Crops and Beef committees of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Jackson County office, according to Michael Hiller, AgriLife Extension agent.
Registration is $25, which includes refreshments and lunch, and begins at 8 a.m., Hiller noted.
The opening session will be “New Herbicides, Application Methods and Modes of Action” by Dr. Josh McGinty, AgriLife Extension agronomist in Corpus Christi. Also on the morning program are Dr. Megan Clayton, AgriLife Extension range specialist in Corpus Christi, who will present “Green Flatsedge, Weeds, Huisache and Rosehedge Control,” and Dr. Robert Bowling, AgriLife Extension integrated pest management specialist in Corpus Christi, who will present “Honey Bees and Chemicals; Controlling Mosquitoes and Zika.”
After lunch, Dr. Don Renchie, AgriLife Extension agricultural and environmental specialist in College Station, will talk about Texas pesticide laws and regulations. Nikki Dictson, AgriLife Extension program specialist in College Station, will talk about watersheds and water quality related to nutrient management, chemical applications and runoff.
The event will offer one hour for laws and regulations and two hours each for integrated pest management and general from the Texas Department of Agriculture, or three hours for integrated pest management and one hour each for soil and water management and professional development from the Texas Certified Crop Adviser program.
