BOERNE — A Garden Gourmet program will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 12 at the Don Strange Ranch, 103 Waring Welfare Road in Boerne.

The program, Preserving and Serving the Harvest, is part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s statewide Backyard Basics initiative to help Texans learn how to grow, prepare and preserve their own food.

It will offer various hands-on workshops, including Gourmet Greens, Container Gardening, Let’s Pickle, Shabby Chic in the Garden, Yogurts and Smoothies, Sauerkraut Time, Salsas and Your Salsa Garden, and Vegan Feast. It will also feature Bob Webster, host of the KTSA Garden Show.

“The Garden Gourmet program is a collaborative effort of AgriLife Extension offices in Bandera, Blanco, Bexar, Comal, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Medina and Uvalde counties,” said Jana Osbourn, AgriLife Extension agent for family and consumer sciences, Kendall County.

Osbourn said there also will be an “Ask the Expert” station where people can have their garden questions and concerns answered by AgriLife Extension county agents.

The cost is $55 and includes lunch, refreshments and instruction. Participants will also have the opportunity to have a free soil sample tested. Once registered, instructions for sample collection will be sent. Online registration with credit card payment is available at: https://gardengourmetatdonstrangeranch.eventbrite.com.

To register and pay with cash or check, complete the form at the bottom of the program flyer, which can be found at http://kendall.agrilife.org/.
