COLLEGE STATION - “Know Your Grasses,” the field guide from Texas Cooperative Extension, is back by popular demand.
The revised and updated guide is a reference to both native and introduced grasses of Texas and is a must-have for ranchers, gardeners, naturalists, landowners and anyone interested in the natural resources of Texas. There are helpful descriptions and detailed illustrations of 81 different grass species.
Illustrations were provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Soil Conservation Service and by F. W. Gould.
The compact guide is a perfect size to carry into the field or place in the glove compartment.
“We think this publication should appeal to just about everyonefrom students and teachers, to amateur naturalists, to professional land managers,” said Dr. Barron Rector, Extension range specialist and author. “So many people are interested in the natural world around them. They want to know what different plants are and what their role is in the environment.”
During the several years the book was out of print, there were hundreds of requests to bring it back.
“This is one of those publications that appeals to a wide variety of people,” said Judy Winn, an Extension communication specialist who edited the field guide. “There is so much interest right now in land preservation.”
