ALPINE - Sul Ross State University’s Everett E. Turner Center in Alpine will be the site for a rangeland monitoring workshop from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 13.
The center is located in Alpine on U.S. Highway 90 East.
The workshop and field tour is a joint effort between Texas Cooperative Extension and New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension.
“This effort is aimed at helping landowners and land managers on both sides of the Texas/New Mexico border better manage their land by helping them understand their current forage and wildlife production levels,” said Ken Cearley, Extension wildlife specialist at Canyon. “Ranchers armed with this information can then adjust their management to fit the production situation at hand – be it surplus or deficit – and make appropriate changes.”
Topics for the workshop will include: forage assessment, stocking rates, big game surveys, Brush Sculpting and monitoring techniques.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered: two in the general category and one in integrated pest management.
