ALPINE – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a Rainwater Harvesting and Horticulture Workshop from 9 a.m-3 p.m. March 21 at the Kokernot Lodge on Harrison Street in Alpine.
The AgriLife Extension offices in Presidio and Brewster/Jeff Davis counties are hosting the event.
“We’re fortunate to be able to book some truly top speakers for this workshop,” said Jesse Lea Schneider,” AgriLife Extension agent in Presidio County. “We’ll have Gary Bryant, AgriLife Extension water specialist and Mark Muegge, AgriLife Extension entomologist from Fort Stockton; and John White, curator of the University of Texas at El Paso’s Desert Gardens. All these speakers have years of experience dealing with issues specific to our area.”
Presentations will include basic rainwater harvesting; fruit tree selection; connecting a rainwater system to a municipal water supply; tree planting; butterfly gardening; how to create drinking water; insect management in the lawn, landscape and garden; and fruit tree pruning.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be available – two general and one integrated pest management.
Individual registration is $10 payable upon arrival.
