LEAKEY – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will present a Livestock Workshop from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. May 23 at the Frio Pecan Farm, 144 East Ranch Road in Leakey.
Preregistration is encouraged, and can be done May 14–21 at the AgriLife Extension office in Real County, located at 101 Market Street in Leakey.
Day-of registration for workshop will be from 8–8:30 a.m., with presentations to begin immediately afterward.
The registration fee is $10. The program offers three continuing education units – two general and one integrated pest management — for individuals with a Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license.
“Dr. Rick Machen, professor and AgriLife Extension livestock specialist, will be talking about livestock stocking rates and restocking decisions,” said Travis Helm, AgriLife Extension agent for Real County. “Dr. Machen will also cover animal health management and pest management during the current conditions.”
Helm added that Kelley Shults, chief appraiser at the Real County Appraisal District, will discuss tax implications following liquidation of livestock, as well as how long agricultural-exempt landowners have to restock their property.
Helm will discuss feeding solutions for livestock.
