COLEMAN – Janet A. Nelson has been named the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service family and consumer sciences agent for Coleman County, effective Nov. 1. The announcement was made by Coleman County Judge Joe Watson and Scott Durham, AgriLife Extension administrator at San Angelo.
“Janet comes to Coleman County with an extensive family and consumer sciences background,” Durham said. “She has years of AgriLife Extension and classroom teaching experience that, when combined with her proven programming skills, should carry on the strong AgriLife Extension tradition in this key county.”
Nelson holds a master’s of agricultural sciences from Texas A&M University at Kingsville. She also earned a bachelor’s of science degree in home economics and a secondary teacher certification in human sciences from Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
She has served as the AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent in Stephens County since 2003, where she was responsible for family and consumer sciences educational programs and shared responsibilities in 4-H and youth development with the agriculture and natural resources agent.
Prior to joining AgriLife Extension, Nelson taught family and consumer sciences at Godley, where she prepared daily lessons within the home economics curriculum for classes on foods and nutrition, parenting and child development, family living and money management.
She also served in the Alvarado Independent School District as an assistant and accompanist to high school and junior high choir and band programs.
