CRANE – The Crane County 4-H Advisory Board will host a Texas A&M Horsemanship School June 21-22 at the Crane County Arena in Crane.
The 4-H program is the youth component of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
“The school will be a total hands-on learning experience, consisting of two full 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. days of instruction” said Caleb Eaton, AgriLife Extension agent in Crane County. “The young riders will be taught basic horsemanship along with the finer points involved with various horseback activities. Participants will also learn about horse safety, health and nutrition.”
Eaton said the Texas A&M Summer Horsemanship Program is taught by Texas A&M University faculty and students. The team travels throughout Texas each summer to hold clinics for Texas youth riders.
“This is the 41st year this program has been in operation, and we are very proud to host a session in Crane County this summer,” Eaton said.
Individual registration is $75 for non-Crane 4-H members. Preregistration must be submitted to the AgriLife Extension office in Crane County by June 7. The school is open to the first 30 riders who RSVP to the county office. After 30 riders have registered, a waiting list will be compiled if spots open. All youth must provide their own mount and tack and have a chaperone or parent to assist them during the school.
