COLLEGE STATION – Paula Butler has received a Superior Service Award from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, the highest honor given by the agency.
The award was presented Jan. 8 during the agency’s Centennial Conference in College Station.
Butler, a family and consumer sciences agent in Navarro County, was cited for her work in a number of programs helping educate constituents in the area of food and nutrition. Notably, Butler led an extensive diabetes education program. The five-week class series was implemented from 2004-2012. Butler, a licensed dietitian, provided nutrition lessons for the series. In 2007, a specific program targeted the Hispanic population in Navarro County with Butler coordinating a Spanish series class.
Butler also was an integral part of the Cooking Well with Diabetes program. Said Sandra Vernon, Navarro Regional Hospital education coordinator, “I have worked with Paula Butler for the past 20 years and currently partner with her on diabetes programs at Navarro Regional Hospital; she pulls programs and events together with professional grace and perfection; she makes the most complicated things look effortless and with a smile.”
“Paula is one of the most effective agents within the agency,” said Dr. Susan Ballabina, associate program director with AgriLife Extension, College Station. “She is creative, innovative and has a high level of subject matter competence, and she is a leader among her peers. She is an expert in facilitating our program development process, and she consistently achieves strong outcomes. I can think of no one who is more deserving of recognition.”
