CROWELL – Michael Bowman has been hired for the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agriculture and natural resources agent position in Foard County, according to Miles Dabovich, AgriLife Extension district administrator in Vernon.
Bowman began his duties on Jan. 15.
“Michael brings a strong background in production agriculture and grew up as a 4-H member,” Dabovich said. “His past experiences will give him a jump start to being an effective educator for the residents of Foard County.”
Bowman is a native of Crowell, where he was active in both 4-H and FFA. He earned his bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M University and has spent the past eight years working on farms in the White Deer and Crowell areas.
“All these experiences will contribute to my success as an AgriLife Extension agent,” Bowman said. “I have also helped train judging and leadership teams through student teaching, which will be very helpful when training teams for 4-H contests.”
He said Foard County agriculture is primarily wheat and cattle, with a few other crops such as cotton and haygrazer. He hopes to be able to bring something new to the area that can help improve overall yields for the producers.
“I’m excited to be able to come back to my hometown and will start with the kids and 4-H program, but also work with the farmers, looking at new ideas and technology that are available for their use.”
